The persimmons are blooming (Diospyros virginiana). These look like male trees, with their clusters of small blossoms. The female trees tend to have larger, single blossoms.

The image shows several flowers hanging, along with green leaves, from the branches of a tree. The flowers look waxy and have the color of yellowed ivory. They're bell-shaped, like baby octopuses or Casper the Friendly Ghost, bulbous at the top then pulled in at the waist before flaring out and up into four stubby flaps. We can just barely see the tips of pistils or stamens protruding from the opening at the bottom. (Casper! Pull down your sheet!)

Another view of one of the flowers, this time looking straight into the opening. Sunlight shines through the translucent petal-like flaps, and illuminates the veins in the nearby leaves. Inside the flower we see an array of pinkish structures rising up like hungry birdlets crowded into a nest. Behind the flower is a blur of green leaves and light blue sky.
