I'm currently reading "The Checklist Manifesto" which is about checklists for hospitals (as well as aviation and other fields). My experience with checklists in software engineering is that they can be helpful for self-reflection, but ultimately, anything that's important has to be automated. It's too easy for us to ignore lists or check the boxes without doing something.
