I think it's well understood that testing code you wrote is not, generally, thorough.
You will tend to pull back, unconsciously even, from pushing the design and/or the implementation.
But, this problem doesn't happen, at least for me, when I change medium from code to text or a drawing.
I think it's partly because I make it for someone else (the rubber duck effect)
But also I have to be careful to translate from one language (code) to another (text/image). And all sorts of things drop out.
