I have read lots of papers that describe with elaborate words the detrimental effects of generative machine learning models („AI“) on society, culture and politics.
A lot of them are suggesting tighter and more ex post regulation and democratically legitimized oversight authorities in order to give companies more guardrails.
What I barely read are calls for de-privatization of models. Why? Is the idea that generative „AI“ should never belong in the hands of private companies too radical?
