One hopes that, someday, members of the House of Lords will be elected. Until then, however, there exists an obscure provision of which I’d not been aware: every year, two experts are elevated to the Lords.
As a result, Prof Alexandra Freeman, an expert on science communication, is suddenly Baroness Freeman.
