The Monocirrhus polyacanthus or Amazon Leaffish, also referred to as the South American Leaffish, inhabits the Amazon Basin throughout Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela. Not only do these small predators resemble dead leaves, but their flattened bodies and lower jaws appear as stalks! They even float through the water like actual leaves and hide amongst them, which only further adds to their already amazing camouflage!
Here is an Amazon Leaffish, floating through a body of water.
