Indexing the open web to make:
- The original form/location/creator of an image discoverable.
- The ‘first’ story vs the followup stories visible so we can get a better sense of the facts.
- Improved odds to find misuse of your likeness or artwork online.
All pretty unalloyed good things.
There is some place where crawling these images to train a diffusion model becomes a problem. That place seems more likely to be in what the diffusion model is allowed to render than in the crawl.
