Major flaw in many modern build systems: making it difficult to specify where to place the built items.
Autotools gets this right. A simple command line flag, and it doesn't second-guess anything.
CMake makes this slightly more painful, but still works out ~the same.
Cloned an app; realized that the build system (*guilty unnamed) wants a build-system-specific dir. 🤬
/opt/local is not a system directory. It's explicitly something that's NOT system-managed. That's literally the utility of it.
