About 17 of the original fleet of 75 Y class locos still exist today. Some are preserved, but a few remain in active service with VLine today shunting passenger carriages at Southern Cross, and with freight operators as yard pilots at goods terminals around Victoria and elsewhere. I believe Y124 itself may be one of the survivors, in service today with Southern Shorthaul Railroad.
