So, in 1983, four K cars, nos 500, 600, 702 and 703, were leased by VLine from AN for use on short distance commuter trains. AN re-classified the cars as AK and BK and those identities were retained by VLine as 1 AK, 3 BKL, 1 BK and 2 BK respectively. Following delivery to VLine of sufficient Sprinter railcars, these non-airconditioned cars were surplus to requirements and were returned to South Australia in about 1992.
