Ten years ago OTD, Padres legend Tony Gwynn died at 54.

I was at my lunch break when a coworker told me and my reacion was reluctant disbelief. "What? He died?" was all I could say. While he was battling cancer, I didn't expect that.

There were so many late clutch hits but my jaw may still be in the floor from that unexpected HR off Wells in the '98 WS. He actually had some pop.

Tony Gwynn Jr., Padres radio analyst, has a very similar voice.

A 1996 Upper Deck baseball card depicting a close shot of Gwynn sitting with his white pinstriped jersey and blue cap with his sunglasses lowered and staring to his right side as if thinking about something while his hands are resting on a bat.knob.

Bottom of the card has a gold banner with a silver ellipse in center which shows player name, team and position.

Upper Deck had really good photography around this time.
