Similar problem: relative timestamps. It's not "1 day ago" if it's early in the morning and the referenced event had been in the afternoon or evening two days ago. Yes, no 48 hours have passed, that's right. But that's not how humans refer to the passing of two days. Just stick to the numbers of midnights between the event and now. And if there doesn't fit a night of sleep between the clocktimes, subtract 1. If the result is 0 just output the number of hours.
