We think of psychology in the Majority world as passive and receptive to a prevailing Western zeitgeist. However, this has been a resistance to its subject matter and methodology for decades. Indian Professor Durganand Sinha (1922-1998) challenges some of these assumptions in his paper.

An abstract piece of art in a bright shade of mustard yellow with a 3D like shape in the middle. The shape is made up of several colours such as pink, orange, pale blue and purple. “Psychology has remained somewhat removed from the complexities of social problems is the constraint of its methodology modelled after mathematics and pure science. The West has certainly produced a vast output of neatly designed researches into various social processes. Reading these studies in prestigious foreign journals, one is impressed by their neatness and precision. But at the same time, one is disappointed by their artificiality, triviality, and lack of relevance to real-life psychological phenomena.” Durganand Sinha
