I have the impression that by "dark" in appearance (of a linux system) I am one per mille who understands that "black" (i.e. sRGBB (r, g, b) (0, 0, 0)) is one acknowledged , if not fundamental, setting of choice in color.
E.g. "darker" theme in XFCE or qt is just .. more or less grey in grey. #inNeedOfBlack
