When I hiked to Frenchmans Cap in the 80's, it was through several km of boggy buttongrass plains, where it was common to be waist deep in the mud. And there was no bridge over the Loddon River, nor any boardwalks. At the summit we could see 20m in the fog.
This video (not mine) of the trip brings back a lot of memories. It's a special place.
