PROVIDING THE FINANCE
MOTORING ON IMPROVED ROADS
It is expected that the “Gazette” notice declaring what are to be main throughout the Dominion will be published very shortly. When this is done the local authorities in the various highway districts will be in a position to make their preliminary preparations for the proper construction and maintenance of the main highways running through their several districts.
Recently, the Prime Minister promised to do what he could in the way of providing the Main Highways Board with finance to carry on its operations pending the passing by Parliament of the Motor Vehicles Bill, which will provide the financial basis for the proper working of the main highways scheme.… not, less than £200,000 [ca. $24M today]… each year.…
The Motor Vehicles Bill will be presented to Parliament at an early stage in the coming session, but before it is passed, ample time will be given to local bodies and motor unions to make their views known…
