The FCC had initially banned the song from radio play on the grounds that the lyrics were "obscene". Reyna's record label then sued the FCC, pointing out that the agency had previously allowed airplay of Ricky Dingle's 1975 hit song "Spreadin' My Cheeks (Dig In, Baby)", whose lyrics dealt with similar subject matter. The Supreme Court agreed with Reyna's record label that the FCC's regulatory double standard violated the sex discrimination clause of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and ordered that the radio ban be lifted immediately.
