This line of thought isn’t fully baked yet, but I think we need to lexicalize the difference between free will and free choice.
Free will: yes, technically, you can touch a hot stove if you want.
Free choice: if the stove is hot, there is no free choice. Touching it is not a decision you feel “free” to make.
BUT—and this is really important—if the stove is NOT hot and someone tells you it is, you still don’t have free choice. Even if they constantly preach about how much freedom you have.
